Dolorosa is a woodcut print on Hahnemühle Ingres Paper with interference pigments. Eric k. Lerner says, “ I did the woodcut a few years ago but never editioned it. Her image staid in my mind. When I bought a new collection of relief inks I decided to put them through their paces and wanted to try them with iridescent pigment dusting. I used three pigments, royal blue, aquamarine and crimson and was pleased with the results. When you look straight at her, you see a black image, but when you look at her from the side the pigments start to glow, especially if light hits it. She has a holographic quality like she’s floating over the paper.” The seven swords bare astrological glyphs for the seven traditional planets of astrology. In esoteric astrology each of the planets can be thought of as a grief, challenge or daimon someone must overcome due to position in the birth chart.
