Wow! My first blog. What do I say? Maybe I should do a tutorial on a printmaking process or write something about the history of esoteric art in printmaking. But,hey, I managed with the generous help of Ara Giacomazzi to get a website up!
So how did I get here? After more roughly four decades of supporting myself as a writer, fortuneteller, illustrator, painter and printmaker, I decided I’d better get real with planning ahead. So I enrolled in an entrepreneurship program thanks to a scholarship from the Ratcliffe Foundation through the generosity of the late Carole Ratcliffe. That was more than three years ago. In that time I’ve planned businesses printing other artists’s works, teaching workshops on divination and painting puppy portraits. When I crunched the numbers and did research analysis none of that seemed to work. Finally, this spring one of my business mentors said to me, “Why don’t you just cut the crap. You’re a fine artist. Brand it and sell it. That’s your business.” Well, good idea to face facts and own up. (Although I feel a bit sad about letting go of the puppy portraits idea.)
So for now, I’m just going to say that Three Bones Society is open for business. I welcome your feedback on the site. Let me know if there’s anything you’d like to see listed for sale.
I’ve tried to curate an initial suite of pieces for the shop that makes sense. On some level they deal with how we create and icons of faith and destiny. I intend to drop new pieces every one to two weeks. I think it’s important to start off simply. I’ve tried to keep pieces in the Shop reasonably priced. More exclusive pieces, including many one of a kind, are available in the boutique.
Also, I promise to include tutorials and thoughtful essays as blog posts. Maybe I’ll even throw in the odd poem or puppy cartoon. For now I just want to say thank you for reading.
